"For 3 years, New York's Halloween Hellraiser has been the arena for letting right coast skaters showcase their talent. And for 3 years skaters seem to be coming from farther and farther away just for the event, Pennslyvania, Delaware, and even Florida. The turnout is mind boggling tons of kids trying to skate the 2 boxes in the free skate area and skaters piled on top of each other dropping into the quarter pipe to skate the rail. The logistics are a bit funny but not surprising given the New York's Parks Department estimating that 1 million skateboarders now reside within the 5 boroughs. Yet even with these statistics, skateboarding in New York isn't California. The industry and media is on the other coast. Although the city is littered with skate spots, demos, contests and tours are few and far between. Recognizing this fact, Billy Rohan has risen up for the kids. This is his third Halloween contest and next year there will be one as well and hopefully you'll be there to skate it."
Words, Photos & Video by Sean Nguyen. Finally a contest for the skaters of New York. At Open Road Rooftop on top of Seward Park High School, Billy Rohan's final contest of the year went down without a hitch. With an estimated 700 kids showing up, the format was land a trick and walk away with money!
