Usually I start the day off meeting up with my homie Marco. He lives right down the street from the shop, then meet up with the other homies, sometimes Robbie, Patrick, or Josh. Skate with Dayman usually…all day.
What’s up with your tattoo? What’s the story behind it?
It says S4L and the story behind that is just three homies trying to make their own little crew and we ended up calling it S4L for Skate 4 Life. About three years ago we decided to make it official and get tattoos, so we made our own tattoo gun, got some ink on eBay and inked ourselves up [laughs].
Whenever I skate with you it seems like you break a lot of boards. How many boards would you say you break when you skate all week?
A week of hard skating…probably two or three
Robbie: Dude you’ve broken two or three boards in one day.
It just depends. I don’t know, sometimes it’s like eight and sometimes it’s like one a month.
Patrick: What do you do outside of skating?
Not much right now, it’s summer so I’m just hanging out with friends, not really doing much of anything…a little side job, I’m going to start going to school on August 19th at CSM so that should take up a good portion of my time if I do it right.
Switch Pop Shove it
Robbie: What’s your side job?
My side job is teaching little kids how to skate at Beresford Skatepark.
Patrick: What kind of music do you listen to?
Mostly rap, I don’t know, Andre Nickatina got some good stuff.
Back Tailslide
Robbie: If you’re smashing down the street super fast, what’s the new song to be slapping?
Actually probably something more relaxing. I like to skate to more relaxing music. It calms me down and makes me think about tricks better.
Patrick: Who are some of your favorite skaters?
Grant Taylor, he smashes, P Rod, gotta give it up to him, and Marco Lerma.
Patrick: What are some of your favorite spots to skate?
Well Shoreview skate park in San Mateo is probably the best one and I like to skate a lot in Downtown San Mateo cause I grew up skating here, just skate the streets at night or something.
Robbie: How did you get into skateboarding?
I got a little board for Christmas one year. My cousin and I both got the same X games boards or something and we started off by just going down the hill on our knees and just kept on it from there.
Switch Big Spin
Robbie: Who would you skate with when you were a youngster?
Well when I was a youngster I would just skate in Downtown San Mateo and wherever the bus would take me along El Camino and I would usually just skate with my homie Marco. We’d just go and find stuff all throughout the bay.
What are some warm up tricks you do?
Just cruise around, a few 5050’s, some switch pop shoves, kickflips…nollieflips, switch tre’s [laughs].
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I hope I can be done with school and be skating a lot all the time.
Patrick: What do you hope to do after school? What are you going to school for?
Right now I don’t have a real major picked out yet or anything like that, I’m just doing some general ed hoping to get my associates degree…basically I just want to skate and see what happens with that.
Krook
You were telling me once about architecture.
What about architecture? [laughs] Oh yeah, I am going to be taking an architecture class. I like building things or seeing how things go together.
Any shoutouts?
All the skater homies, Marco, Mashath from back in the day, Tubby, and the people I skate with now, everyone knows who they are. I’d like to give a shoutout to my parents because they helped me out a lot recently and in the past.
